March 15, 2024

The Martin Community College (MCC) Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Tabitha Miller as the next college president. The local board's decision was affirmed on Friday, March 15, by the State Board of Community Colleges.

Dr. Miller has an extensive background in education including experience in secondary education and higher education within the North Carolina Community College System. Most notably, Dr. Miller has served as the Vice President/Chief Academic Officer at MCC since July 2019.

Dr. Miller served on the MCC President's Executive Cabinet and has made significant contributions to the college's growth, success, and commitment to serve students. Her exceptional leadership and knowledge were instrumental in MCC being named the #1 community college in North Carolina for College Transfer Success with a 95.7% success rate on the 2023 Performance Measures for Student Success Report.

In addition, Dr. Miller has successfully led multiple initiatives for MCC including the memorandum of understanding between Martin County Schools (MCS) and MCC to provide a foundation for the MCS Early College Program; program development and support for the Bertie County Schools and MCC Cosmetology program; ISA agreements with Beaufort County Community College and Roanoke-Chowan Community College providing dedicated nursing seats for MCC students; collaboration with NC A&T State University and direct oversight of the million dollar Steps4Growth grant program; and program development and support for Associate in General Education Nursing, Mechatronics Engineering, Agriculture Education, Orthopaedic Technology, Manicuring/Nail Technology, Applied Engineering, Fire Sprinkler Certification Training, and Clean Energy Training Certification.

Prior to her role at Martin Community College, Dr. Miller served 11 years in various roles at Pitt Community College. She holds a PhD in English and Master of Arts in English from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University.

MCC Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Derrick Wilkins stated, "The Martin Community College Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Tabitha Miller the next president. Dr. Miller's successful tenure at MCC along with her knowledge of the college, the community, and the NC Community College System make her a good fit for this role. We are looking forward to Dr. Miller's strategic and visionary leadership as she charts the course to transition the college from good to great!"

"I am honored to be chosen as MCC's president and look forward to continuing my service to the students, faculty, and staff of MCC and the communities of Bertie and Martin Counties. Lifelong learning is the key to strengthening our communities," stated Dr. Miller.

Dr. Miller will begin her role as MCC's 10th president on May 1, 2024.
