The State Board of Community Colleges approved the 2023 Performance Measures for its Student Success Report on Friday, July 21. Martin Community College was the top-rated community college in North Carolina for College Transfer Performance with a 95.7% success rate. The System average rate was 87.4%.
MCC President Wesley Beddard said "We are very excited about this ratng. Last year we were number 3 in the state in Transfer Performance and the highest east of I-95. To follow that up by being the top-rated college this year is a testament to the hard work of our faculty and staff, our commitment to student success, and the great partnerships and collaboration we have with our high school and university partners. It is truly a total team effort."
The Performance Measures Report is the North Carolina Community College System's major accountability document and is the source for 2023-24 state performance funding. This annual performance report is based on data compiled during the previous year and serves to inform colleges and the public on the performance of the state's 58 community colleges.
Martin Community College was above the state performance baseline on all seven performance measures and was also in the top seven colleges for First Year Progression. Beddard stated that "The Transfer Student Success and the Frist Year Progression performance metrics show that students at MCC start their college experience well, but also transition smoothly to senior colleges and universities. Whether a student is pursuing a four-year degree or a credential in one of our outstanding technical programs for immediate employment, our 'student first' approach ensures that our students get the highest level of instruction and support while saving thousands of dollars."
