Earlier this month, MCC President, Dr. Tabitha Miller, met with representatives from the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain (BGCCP) - Williamston and Robersonville units. Martin Community College (MCC) and the BGCCP have been working together over the last five years to provide summer programming for participants. The programming includes bringing students to MCC's campus for career exploration and program experiences. Participants have been given the opportunity to test strawberry DNA in the biology lab, discover through physics how to drop an egg without cracking it, basic automotive assessment such as how to change a tire and check oil, horse husbandry, and virtual career exploration, just to name a few. Daniel Price, Division Chair for College Transfer and Education at MCC, has coordinated the campus efforts for these experiences and opportunities.
Strengthening this partnership, MCC will provide much needed storage space for BGCCP meals. Currently, the Williamston and Robersonville units have been traveling several times a week to Greenville to pick up the food for distribution. With this continued partnership, the food will be stored locally at MCC which will assist the clubs in time and cost savings. Martin Community College is a proud partner of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain.
