Martin Community College has received a fully solar powered shed from the STEPS4Growth (S4G) Program. This shed will be used in MCC's Solar Technician Training Program, a seven-week certification program that prepares graduates to enter the workforce in clean energy jobs or to continue their education.
STEPS4Growth sought out Martin Community College to be one of their regional partners in creating pathways to clean energy and clean energy adjacent jobs. The solar powered shed is the first purchase from this grant. An additional purchase of a mobile solar lab will be made as well.
STEPS4Growth is a Clean Energy Workforce Development Program, funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration's Good Jobs Challenge project and led by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T). Their vision is to establish a national model for local workforce development, creating an inclusive pipeline of clean energy professionals through innovative partnerships and competency-based training. This approach empowers individuals to obtain quality jobs and build sustainable careers with family-sustaining wages (STEPS4Growth).
MCC President, Dr. Tabitha R. Miller, states, "Martin Community College is proud to partner with NC A&T as a sub awardee of the STEPS4Growth grant. As the STEPS4Growth regional hub for solar training, the new structure will become a live classroom space for students to learn how to solarize a home." Dr. Miller expresses enthusiasm for the new training, stating, "We are excited to bring this exciting training opportunity to our community as we continue to build better futures for all."
Martin Community College seeks to build better futures by providing affordable, accessible, quality educational programs and workforce development in a student-centered environment in order to meet the community's needs. MCC's next Solar Technician Training Program will be May 12 - June 28, 2025. Start an exciting career today! Join MCC's Solar Technician Training Program by calling us at (252) 792-1521!
